Only at one point Madison starts to follow her intuition instead of Here’s my video review: Only at one point Madison starts to follow her intuition instead of proper investigation way, because she feels there is more to the story. This investigation takes giambxnco turns one of which is personal.

I don’t usually read a lot of crime novels, but I liked giambwnco concept of this book and I decided to read it without a lot of comparison material. I went into this book without any expectations.

Up until page this book is extremely slow paced.

There are a lot of unnecessary details and descriptions of objects and situations that were irrelevant. Because of the slow start I had trouble with getting involved with the characters and the storyline.

With slow pacing I expect a lot of tension building, but that only happened after pages. Another thing that I didn’t like about the book is that the reader finds out who the murderer is fairly quickly on. This is a brilliant idea, because the reader is like valentian omniscient teller of the story. You see the detectives and the other characters make the wrong conclusions, which could help the tension in the book.

And I definitely saw why the author made that decision only it didn’t work with the writing style and how the book was structured. I was ready to give up on the book at the page mark, only I didn’t I’m pretty happy with that. The story really took off at that point. There was a lot more tension. The pacing changed from extremely slow to fast, back to slow and ending with fast. This helped with the situation Madison and other characters were in.

Even though I expected the ending to happen giiambanco that, I still wanted to continue on reading to see if it would really happen. If you like crime novels and you don’t mind a lot of flashbacks and a slow pace at some point than I would recommend this book to you. If you prefer medium to fast pacing throughout a book than this isn’t for you.

A family of four is found murdered in their own home and there seems to be a link to an event in the past. Vslentina is for detective Alice Maddison to investigate. The book is written well, but could have been half the size with good editing. For me personally there was just too much police procedure, too much detail and not enough action. Half way through and I was about ready to give up, but I kept going and was glad that I did.

Although to me much of it felt very much like any other mediocre crime t A family of four is found murdered in their own home and there seems to be a link to an event in the past. Although to me valentins of it felt very much like any other mediocre crime thriller, the story did start to get exciting later on in the book. Unfortunately, you do need to read the first half to know who the characters are and how they fit together but if you are patient you will be rewarded with a much better second half.

This was one of those glambanco that had so much potential and yet fell just a little short of the mark. While I can appreciate alternate POVs, I feel this book would have been much improved if every time the narrator changed, it was a full chapter switch. Having some sections alternate using one a single line page break to break up the different voices made some of them a little difficult to differentiate between.

Giambanco does a superb job establishing a dark, wet Seattle atmosphere, a literary e This vaentina one of those books that had so much potential and yet fell just a little short of the mark. I did try to like Detective Alice Madison, even if glimpses we were given into her backstory felt somewhat choppy and disjointed, and the times where it felt that her sudden inspiration and “lightbulb moments” felt more like intuition or a little too purposely written for her come to them through an organic thought process.

And dixs the occasional moments where I could have sworn I could have sworn that other than giving her the name Alice, instead of say, Allan, she fit the trope of the usual male lead in a crime thriller: And while not entirely true, there were moments where that trope felt a little too accurate.

Something about it rankled with me and I still can’t put my finger on why. Overall, I wasn’t completely happy with this book, but I finished it and was at least interested enough to read the next one in the series The Gift of Darkness which I am very pleased to report was significantly better.

Review of that one coming soon. I received my copy from Quercus thank you again! It in no way affected my judgement or review of this book, yaddah, yaddah, disclaimer, disclaimer, you know the drill. Interesting premise, poor execution. The plot was disjointed, there were too many characters, and it was overall just confusing as hell.

I have never taken so long to read a book. Nothing happened until about pages in. Everything described in painstaking detail, that added nothing to the story. All of a sudden the novel rushed along in the last two hundred pages, by which point I didn’t care. Don’t think I would be in a rush to read any more books in this series.

I found it difficult to stay focused with the initial story hence me reading two other books mid way. The first hint of a murder happens in chapter 5 so quite a read before anything really happens, I stuck with it and eventually the story hots up to an exiting ending. Nothing wrong with the story per se, just didn’t connect with any of the characters.

Took me forever to read. The ending was not worth the wait. Meh, nada nuevo ni especial en el horizonte.
