Fancy you being right about something for once! J’ai lu quatre autres Vargas, auxquels j’ai mis d’excellentes notes. The second thread, around a historical society obsessed with re-enacting Robespierre’s role the French revolution, completely bored me. The only link on the surface is that ten years earlier they had been on a doomed trip to Iceland, where two of their number were murdered. Jennifer Klenz I wrote this question and now can answer it myself.
Les chemins de la peste: The Robespierre Society gives him a suspect list of seven hundred, also anonymous, but at least he can go see them in historical costume.

A quando il prossimo? It makes me think to 30th french movies. Maybe it’s because I jumped in at the 10th book in the series.
She is super-intelligent, but also truly compassionate and humane. Vendermot’s daughter, Lina, has seen the Furious Army, and in their company some men of their village, Ordebec.
Ultimately, of course, the real killer is identified and nabbed, but not before we are presented with umpteen potential suspects and an equal number of potential avenues of approach. This is a complex and atmospheric story that weaves a spell over the reader.
The doctor with amazing physio powers was locked up at the end of this book. My personal opinion of the series is: In realta’, lo sa fin dall’inizio.

But for some reason it works, largely because Vargas takes her characters and their quirks very seriously: The two victims were part of a harrowing tour of Iceland ten years before where not all of their group came out alive. I am attracted to Jean-Baptiste Adamsberg – his dreamy, logic-lazy sensibility, especially as set against the super intellect and of his right-hand man, white wine addict Commander Adrien Danglard.
There are plenty of red herrings, two bizarre plotlines to follow, and of course, the characters in Adamsberg’s ensemble not to mention the woman with the pet boar named Marcwhich when combined, make it another book that appeals to my vagras for unconventional crime stories. Then a second body is found, once again, thought to have committed suicide, but once again the same strange symbol is found. A teensy little bit on fredd slightly weird side, I admit, but scrumptiously yummy none the less.
Le rat la puce et l’homme Pest Roads. There are two detectives in my nefarious life. I’m always enjoying Vargas’ mysteries although I like some of the Adamsberg books better than others.
There is the case of the tortured dove, the industrial magnate that has been burned to death and an infamous arsonist framed for the murder and the main story, which is the ghostriders of Ordebec. However, an adept, dangerous and ruthless killer has no intention of being discovered and will do anything to stop this happening.
Just unbelievably delightful to follow Vargas’s process! The first victim, Alice Gauthier, and those that follow have a sign on the scene that baffles cavalcat police, including Commandant Danglard of the Serious Crime Squad. While he’s hanging about outside the station, he’s accosted by a timid Norman countrywoman who has been told that Adamsberg is the one man in France who may be able to help her.

Ad ogni modo, la solita Fred. Books by Fred Vargas. As a reader you are drawn in and like Adamsberg team at times you wonder about the tangent he is going in. Which makes me want to dance, obviously. Could someone frev killing the survivors? Her crime fiction policiers have won three International Dagger Awards from the Crime Writers Association, for three successive novels: Although this book took an extra-ordinary amount of time to get through and had some boring strecthes, the ending was utterly satisfying.
